Ammonia, nitrite & Vibrio control
Mechanism
Aerobic spore-forming bacterium that degrades organic waste and competes with pathogenic Vibrio for resources in pond/tank water; associated with lower ammonia and nitrite nitrogen accumulation and a more favourable water and gut microbial community.
Application / Format
Direct pond/tank water dosing for bioremediation, or supplied as a bulk powder for water-treatment product formulation; also compatible with feed-based delivery.
Target Use
Most directly evidenced in Pacific white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) pond systems; the underlying mechanism is commonly extended to finfish pond/tank systems.
Keeps pond and tank water within safe ammonia/nitrite limits without relying solely on water exchange, while suppressing the Vibrio species responsible for most shrimp disease outbreaks — a water-quality role rather than a feed-additive one.
Research & Evidence (2 findings)
- A 60-day trial in a Penaeus vannamei system found treatment kept ammonia/nitrite significantly lower than untreated controls and suppressed pathogenic Vibrio counts (2.56×10⁴ vs 3.60×10⁴ CFU/mL). — Zheng et al., Front Microbiol, 2025
- The same trial found shrimp survival significantly improved (91.1% vs 72.2%) with a better feed conversion ratio (0.49 vs 0.85) versus controls. — Zheng et al., Front Microbiol, 2025
Worth knowing: This finding is specific to the strain and system tested; ammonia/nitrite control is also strongly influenced by stocking density, water exchange rate and existing pond microbial load. EmerrBio's own strain has not been independently trialled in this exact system.
